Seasonal Farm Crew (part-time, April thru December)

Business Overview

Since 2015, Mavourneen Farm has offered certified organic plants & produce to the Bloomington community.  We sell through our CSA, local farmers markets and farm stop outlets.   Our production ethics are rooted in a concern for preserving the Earth, appropriately valuing food and farmers, and the creation of greater health and beauty.  We grow outside in open fields and in passive solar hoop houses, with the majority of work done by hand.

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated, hardworking, cheerful, and dependable person to join our small team for the 2026 growing season.  We strive to create a positive, open, and enjoyable work culture, emphasizing mutual respect and good communication.  We will work hard, have fun, be outside, listen to good music, share meals, and go home tired and satisfied at the end of each day.

Tasks and responsibilities for this position will vary seasonally and day to day:  greenhouse seeding and plant care, field bed prep, planting, hoeing and hand weeding, harvesting, washing and packing, and CSA and market booth work.  There will also be some construction type projects such as hoop house building, fence work, irrigation lines, plant bench building, etc.  Tasks will often require simple repetitive motions for long periods of time, as well as bigger picture systematic thinking and creative artistry.  We place special emphasis on growing very high quality plants and beautiful produce.  Crew members must be thorough, efficient, and detail oriented. 

If you are looking to gain experience with organic farming this is a great way to get started.  If you already have a lot of farming experience, please let us know - we are open to finding ways to incorporate already skilled folks into our business.  

Responsibilities

  • Nursery work- filling trays, seeding, potting up, watering, tagging, moving trays

  • Farm work – bed prep, planting, weeding, mowing, etc.

  • Wash pack- harvesting, washing, bagging, bunching, boxing, etc.

  • Customer service- help to greet  & connect with CSA and Market customers, stock produce, answer questions, etc.

  • Other tasks as needed

Requirements

  • Have reliable transportation to the farm on South Rockport Road 

  • Weekend availability (some market and/or weekend solo farm hours seasonally)

  • Provide your own work gear (boots, hats, sunscreen, rain coat, gloves, etc)—we do provide t-shirts & wash pack bibs

  • Ability to work outside comfortably in all kinds of weather conditions 

  • Be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and team lift even more

  • Cheerful, efficient, dependable, adaptable, kind, and positive attitude 

  • Ability to follow instructions and receive constructive feedback

  • Ability to work & communicate effectively with a small team

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Previous farming experience

  • Basic hand tool knowledge (shovel, wheelbarrow, pruners, etc) & power tool experience (weed whip, drills, saws, etc) 

  • Good hand eye coordination

  • Plant and vegetable identification knowledge 

  • Love for food

Hours & Seasonality

  • This position is part-time and seasonal, April through December only, with the potential to return in future years

  • Hours: 24 hours per week

  • Weekly schedule:  We need someone who is available 2-3 days per week Tuesday-Friday, approximately 8am-6pm and on the weekend for 4-6 hours (some on farm and some at market depending on the season)

  • There may be some days that start/end early or start/end late and we may adjust the schedule throughout the season depending on light, heat, etc.

  • There may occasionally be opportunities for additional hours helping with deliveries or CSA.

Compensation

  • $16-20 per hour based on previous experience 

  • Access to nursery plants & farm produce 

  • Fuel stipend to help cover the cost of commuting out to the farm

  • 2 paid days off & option to take unpaid time off with advanced planning
